“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”Proverbs 16:9
Wednesday 18th March 2020
The Elders again met last night to pray and discuss how our Church should respond to the current situation. Through this, it was our aim to ensure that God is glorified in all we do. However, before outlining our decisions, our first plea would be that you continue to uphold the Elders in prayer. Like all men, we do not have all the answers. But through our own prayers, we strive to seek God’s wisdom and will in everything we do.
We have decided that all services will be postponed until further notice. This was not a decision taken lightly. We spent several hours together last night, and then all of today individually praying, before reaching this decision.
We know that many of you will be disappointed by this decision. As a Church, we have a strong foundation of meeting to worship our Lord Jesus Christ. We, as Elders, are burdened with the weight of this decision – to the point where we feel the reality of the spiritual battle we are facing. No one wants our Church to grow more than the Elders, and no one wants to serve the Church more than the Elders.
However, given the Government’s advice that all faith meetings should be suspended, and the advice that all elderly and vulnerable people should adhere to strict social distancing measures, we feel we have a duty of care to our flock in the Church to protect the elderly and vulnerable among us. In this matter, we were guided by the command to respect our authorities, because God has placed them there and all authority comes from God (Romans 13:1).
This of course means that Communion service at 10:30 am, the Family Service at 12 noon, the prayer time at 6pm, and the evening service at 6:30 will not go ahead.
As previously communicated, all midweek services and gatherings are also postponed until further notice.
Please consider ways to show love to each other. If there is someone in the Church who is unwell, or is on their own, pick up the phone to them. Pray with them. As Christ did, demonstrate love in any way you can. Show grace and compassion to everyone. We are all members of one body of Christ.
Clearly, over the coming weeks/months the collections for the church will fall dramatically. You may wish to consider setting up a direct debit for their giving. To enable you to do this, the church bank details are as follows:
Account number: 00151062
Sort code: 83-15-11
As requested above, please also continue to pray for the Elders. If ever the Elders needed your prayers for wisdom, for unity, and for protection against spiritual battles, it is now. We are in daily contact with each other and we are planning on meeting weekly (where possible) to re-assess the situation. This will also be an opportunity for us to discuss how we can continue to show pastoral care to everyone in our Church in this challenging environment.
We are discussing ways in which we can continue to connect our Church together during this time when face-to-face meeting is difficult. The first of these is that Ross will send out a weekly devotional letter/email to the Church – watch your inboxes!
If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the Elders. We are here to serve you in any way we can.
These are very uncertain times, not only for the world, but for the future of our Church. It may be a number of weeks or months before we can meet regularly again. However, in all things, our God is sovereign. Regardless of the uncertainty, we have a faithful God!!
Always in Christ and with love,
The Elders – email@example.com
